"The Bible tells of an all-powerful, eternal Creator who created the universe, including the heavens, the earth, and all created things, from nothing. The Genesis account of creation, while not a scientific narrative in itself, is completely harmonious with scientific evidence. According to ancient Greek mythology, the heavens were held up by a giant called Atlas, and the ancient Indian writings tell of the earth being a square and held up by four fish. But twenty-seven hundred years ago, before man discovered that the earth was round, the Bible said that the earth is a circle (Isa. 40:22) and that it hangs upon nothing (Job 26:7)."

Dazzling evidence that definitely reinforces my faith in the Creator. Found it here, a URL that a passenger at Sea-Tac referred me to, where you can pick up a free "Recovery Version" bible...

I definitely felt blessed by this passenger who led me to this quote through the URL he pointed me to, and I'm inclined to think of the guy as a "courier of God." He's about 22-23, 'bout the same age as me, and he told me right off the bat that I wouldn't get a tip if I assisted him to the gate 'cause he'd lost his wallet. I was kinda suspicious, but I took him to the gate nonetheless, tellin' him that if he truly needed the help, and that if it wasn't a luxury, it'd be "no problem." He had two belongings, one was a regular ol' backpack, and the other was a charcoal sketch of his face he'd had done in Vancouver, BC...

As we were goin' up the "C" concourse, he shared his testimony. He's from Kingsdale, a suburb of Houston, and was in a serious, life-threatening car accident there two days after graduation in '97. It was real graphic the way he described it, and briefly recounting he said that he was in a car w/ his buddies who'd all been drinking, and were on the way to the hospital becuase one guy sustained some kind of injury. He said that on the way the vehicle somehow veered on the freeway and he ended up flying out of the windshield as the car flipped 5 times. Adding to this, he was rolled over by an Isuzu utility involved in the accident. In total, he sustained a ruptured spleen, cracked vertebrae in his back. He told me he'd died twice that night, flat-lining once in an emergency helicopter, and another time which I think he said was in the hospital he was brought to...

During our walk up there, he repeatedly kept sayin' he wouldn't know where he'd be if he hadn't sustained this accident, 'cause it had brought him to the Lord. Seein' him express his gratitude to the Lord first-hand, despite his glaring physical incapacities [had crutches attached to both arms, no back support, legs swimmin like jelly-fish]...I felt really blessed to have somethin' like that shared seemingly out of the blue, on a one-to-one level...

When we finally got to the gate was when he scribbled on a napkin the URL to the link at the beginning of this BLOG entry. As he scribbled on the napkin, I took a closer look at the portrait he had w/ him, and I was instantly transfixed on the gaze of the portrait. It was a look of serenity, of timelessness, of a soul's contentment, of home...

I looked up from the portrait, and one of the girls accompanying him looked at me and smiled. Seemed like she knew what I was thinkin'... =]

Won $180 at Emerald... =]

Could've easily been $290, but the 4 barely hung on for the first slot in the trifecta in the 8th race of the Hastings Park simulcast. Had him in the 2nd slot, behind the rushing 3 which fell short of the win by about half a length. Man, if the 3 jockey pulled the trigger just a second earlier, 3 would've nailed it easily comin' from the clouds...

Caught Insomnia tonight...

Great flick, real riveting and engrossing. Pacino put in a stellar performance, vintage...definitely on caliber to his acclaimed Oscar performances...

And Robin Williams, it was interesting seein' him venture out of the comedic and into the melodramatic realm, vibin' a "calm spookiness"...

Without going into too much detail, here's the one line from the flick which really struck a chord for me and captured the gist of the proceedings...

"What separates a good cop from a bad cop is that the good cop doesn't sleep 'cause of things that're puzzling about a case, and the bad cop doesn't sleep 'cause his conscience won't let him."

Found myself easily empathizing w/ Pacino's character. Torn...

Definitely reinforced a concept fr. Faith 101...

Won $30 at Emerald... =/

Yeah, came out "in the black" today, but as the computerized emoticon indicates, I'm kinda disappointed. Should be $565 up...the last race on the Emerald track had a 17-1 long-shot come in first, and a 10-1 shot come in 2nd. I had a $3 exacta on the 10-1 shot coming in first, and the 17-1 shot in the 2nd spot...man, so freakin' close. Payout for the $1 exacta was $165 and change, and multiplyin' that by three equates to a cool chunk o' change...

Oh well, that's the nature of handicapping and bein' a handicapper, learning the art of toleration and relegating to back of mind...

Tuesday, May 07, 2002

Well, today I officially turned the big 2-3. I'm not really big on celebrating my birthday, at least not anymore, so I didn't really expect anything special to happen today. I guess it's better that way because I turn out being happy with the moderate goods that happen to come my way nonetheless. Hearing someone wish me a "happy birthday" is enough to put a smile on my mug. Heard a lot of 'em at work today, and that was coo...

After work, I came home not expecting anything, and there it was on the table. Good ol' home-made Filipino party fare! All thanks to my mom and a few of my cousins! "Palabok" [fat noodles smothered in a delectable carmelized sauce topped with green onions, shrimp, crunched up pork rinds...] and "Sarshado" [one of my faves, don't know how to properly describe it, but it's something like a saucy, vegetable-laden salmon casserole]. And a cake w/ my name emblazoned on it! It's funny, I know for a lot of people that'd be an overreaction, but I guess I'm an easily excitable guy, one who's easy to please...

After the mini-celebration, I headed down to the IMA to work out, to get my customary intense cardiovascular in on the basketball courts. I started playing at 7:30PM tonight, gettin' on a squad right away, and didn't stop until 9:30PM. Our team won every single game! It was a streak of about nine or ten straight victorious games, and a big contribution came via an uncannily sharp, "junior class" throwback three-point stroke. So sharp, that my first nine or so offerings from 3-point land were picturesque rainbows splashing the net...

At around 9:30PM, I hit up the weights, and put in a quality hour of lifting...

11:00PM, got home. Logged on the 'Net, checked up on my customary stops, and by total chance I discovered that an article I submitted to IIStix about a month or so ago that I wrote on the original "Ichi-bro" himself actually got published. This came as a total surprise, since I didn't get an e-mail reply in the couple weeks following the submission, so I figured they relegated it to the scrap heap. But tonight, there it was! Woo-hoo! Totally unexpected, albeit a totally welcome surprise. Check it out here.

I'll definitely be goin' to bed tonight w/ a smile and a prayer of gratitude...

The Creator, the head architect, the original Renaissance painter. A jet-black oceanic sky, the canvas...

He, the same Creator who hath painted me...
