The City...

My weekend excursion here in the Bay Area [SF, San Jose] has been very enjoyable so far. As soon as my cuz Rob picked me up fr. the Mineta airport, we hit up In N' Out, and that really got me reindoctrinated into the Silicon Valley culture, hehe. We then headed up to the City on 101 and checked out the Metreon along w/ the SF chinatown which is like 100 times more coolness than the tiny and drab in comparison Sea-Town version. Had some pan-fried scallops and Korean BBQ shortribs that really hit the spot, and even got a 20% military discount, unbeknownst to myself until my cuz pointed it out. Later that night, we hit up a karaoke joint called the 7 bamboo in San Jose and it was loud, packed, and definitely not shy 'bout getting ornery. =p I ended up performing one of my specialties, Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees. I couldn't sing it the way I wanted to 'cause the accompaniement wasn't in the right key, so I just turned it into a rock song and wailed out on it like I'd done on songs such as Mr. Brightside and Beverly Hills. As soon as I finished, I thought I'd royally jacked over the song, but to my surprise the crowd erupted w/ a passionate approval of the vocal mess they'd just witnessed, hehe. =p And the prognosis for more enjoyment looks pretty good so far, since my younger cuz Harry and I have tickets for tomorrow's 49ers game against them 7-2 NFC leading 'Hawks! What's kinda funny about this is that I've never been to a Seahawk game, and who would've thought that I'd be attending my 1st one at the 'Stick aka Candlestick Park. Pretty gosh darned crazy, but it doesn't stop me from momentarily feeling like a hyped up lil' kiddie again, all jubilant and giddy...

I'll be...

...not holdin' back? =p Ha, ha. Well, I've been meaning to do this song for a while now, but never had the cajones to get up there and just belt it out in front of semi-random ppl. But last night happened to be different, since I got there at around 11:30PM and and the place wasn't too packed. I figured "what the hey, only like a 3rd capacity" so I did the song, attempting to exude the passion of it by not merely hitting the notes but by makin' it come alive w/in the spaces in between them, and the ppl really dug it as it was received pretty heartily. It wasn't like the eruption that Mr. Brightside generated, but nonetheless it was a lovely and warm reception. My 5-6 buddies at my table had a lot of positive things to say 'bout it, which I felt was pretty genuine. A sound assessment since I think I've grown to be pretty adept at telling whether they weren't really "feelin' it." =O But yeah, I'm happy that I've finally got this one under my belt. Yeah, yeah! =p

the strands in your eyes that color them wonderful
stop me and steal my breath
emeralds from mountains thrust towards the sky
never revealing their depth...

tell me that we belong together
dress it up with the trappings of love
i'll be captivated, i'll hang from your lips
instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above...

i'll be your cryin' shoulder
i'll be love suicide
i'll be better when i'm older
i'll be the greatest fan of your life...

rain falls angry on the tin roof
as we lie awake in my bed
you're my survival, you're my living proof
my love is alive and not dead...

tell me that we belong together
dress it up with the trappings of love
i'll be captivated, i'll hang from your lips
instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above...

i've dropped out, burned up, fought my way back from the dead
tuned in, turned on, remembered the thing you said...

i'll be your cryin' shoulder
i'll be love suicide
i'll be better when i'm older
i'll be the greatest fan of your life...

All out...

Did a rendition tonight of "Mr. Brightside" that got the audience rockin' out! I pretty much just let it fly up there, didn't hold back at all, and they erupted! My buddy Josh went so far as to say that it was the best performance he'd ever seen fr. me, on par w/ my specilized rendition of Stayin' Alive. That meant a lot to me, since I can intuitively tell those times when he thinks I didn't do too hot up there. Kat really dug it too, and even got her doin' her thing like a wild feline on the boogie floor! Think I really just gotta let it fly more often, or lean more towards cuts that're more conducive to that, hehe. Rock on! =p

comin' out of my cage
and i've been doin' just fine
gotta gotta be down
because i want it all
it started out with a kiss
how did it end up like this?
it was only a kiss
it was only a kiss...

now i'm fallin' asleep
and she's callin' a cab
while he's havin' a smoke
and she's takin' a drag...

now they're goin' to bed
and my stomach is sick
and it's all in my head
but she's touchin' his chest now
he takes off her dress now
let me go...

and i just can't look
it's killin' me
and takin' control...

jealousy
turnin' saints into the sea
swimmin' through sick lullabies
chokin' on your alibis
but it's just the price i pay
destiny is callin' me
open up my eager eyes
'cause i'm Mr. Brightside...
