"2-1, it's all fun"...

Before this past Sunday's EBA game, I practiced a bit on the old stomping grounds of Maple Elementary, a school I last attended back in 1990. At one point, 2 young kids [Jordan and Buddha] asked me if I wanted to take them on in a b-ball game to 21. In jest, I said "sure, but take it easy on me." As the game progressed, we had a running dialogue taking place and they reminded me of how most kids are just so fun and refreshing to be around. They'd act so shocked when I'd hit a 3-pointer from NBA range, staring jaw dropped at the hoop, then at me. So funny, at one point Jordan mentioned how Allen Iverson is one of his favorite players, and remarked "he's just about your height...and skill." And the kid seriously meant it! What's more, after I concluded the game w/ a beyond NBA range 3-point bomb that generated another slack-jawed response, Buddha ran up to me as I strolled to my car and he asked me for my freakin' autograph! Naturally, I obliged and signed the small piece of paper he handed me. Unreal...

The 2-1 fun didn't end there, as in the afternoon our EBA squad won its contest to go 2-1 for the season. Our team started out real slow, as the opposition staked out a 17-2 lead right out of the gate. At that point, I thought they had the steamroller out and wouldn't turn it off until the final buzzer. Coach Edison called a TO, and rallied us together to relax and play calm. It worked, as our team cut their lead to 9 at the half...

The 2nd half, the momentum continued for us, and we managed to bring the contest into bonus basketball aka overtime, tied up at 44-44. Up 49-46 in the period, I got fouled while taking a shot, and got the chance to seal the W at the charity stripe. I calmly sank 2 free throws [along w/ any chance for them to catch up] to put us up 51-46 w/ 8 seconds to go. No one else scored after that point, and contest ended 51-46. I put up 11 of our 51 points, on 4-7 shooting [1-2 fr. 3-point land] w/ a handful of assists I didn't keep track of...

Diagnosis: mild NASHTINESS... =p

[*random notes]

-- Shot the breeze w/ Q13's Fox sports anchor Dan Devone at a teriyaki joint during a lunch break today. Seemed like a chill fella, I asked him if he just got done "lifting" at 24 Fitness, and he smiled remarking he just got done playing a round of golf. It's fun to talk w/ TV personalities, almost feels like the media savvy rubs off. Gonna need it when I sign more of them autographs... =p

-- Can't believe I'll be a quarter-of-a-century old next Thursday. Stay tuned for a homie inspired "grasshopper" list of life lessons...

"NASHTY boy"...

Played 2nd EBA contest today, and our team nabbed the W by the score of 41-28. Team chemistry shined through today, as my teammates got accustomed to each other's strengths, deficiencies and tendencies. I'm the PG on our squad and I performed much better this 2nd contest, attacking the basket and finding open teammates on the perimeter and in the paint. Or just plain fillin' up the bucket, and that I did, scoring a team high 12 points on 5-7 shooting [2-2 fr. 3pt. range] to go w/ 5 assists. Nashty! =p

If our squad can replicate today's performance next Sunday, we'll be in good shape to compete for the W and go 2-1 for the season...

Willie the Phat...

Stopped by Emerald for the last 2 races of opening night, and the 1st race I'm there the Willie the Cat breaks the world freakin' record in the 5 and a half furlong. He finished at a blazing 1.01 [minutes] and 1 / 5...

Had a trifecta goin' on that race, and I had Willie keyed on top of 1234 / 1236. The 6 at 17 to 1 odds placed 2nd, and the 2 nabbed 3rd. Real close...

"Fantasy Final"...

No, I'm not "dyslexic." But you're close...it's a different "-ic." As in "ecstat-ic" since as of today, I'm in the finals of a Fantasy b-ball league full of real life "bro-skies." I'm also in the Finals of 2 other leagues, but I haven't personally met those cats I'd been competing against so I'm not as high on those 2. Overall, I guess I can attribute the gushing success to an uncanny knack of synthesizing copious amounts of info / data and using it to gauge the likeliness of that potential to realize itself. Looks like all those sessions of intuitively analyzing the "Daily Racing Form" at Emerald has paid off in other areas, such as Fantasy sports...

I'm hoping I'm not just jockin' the "Ichi-Bong" as an excuse to hit the Emerald track / SoCal simulcasts this season, since I told myself I'd take an indefinite hiatus from handicapping the ponies in '04 to heighten my focus in other pursuits I'm passionate about. Namely "sports / God / jobby-job / music." The "passion superfecta" if I might coin the phrase. Ha...

Well "cat," if the inquisition is softly killin' you, the "homie b-ball final" goes from the 5th to the 18th of this month...

It's kinda ironic, since the 18th is the date our "Crimson" squad is scheduled to play it's 2nd EBA contest. Hopefully I'll be better at bein' "out-of-control, in-control" aka "NASHTY" this 2nd go 'round and go 3-point / assist happy...just like my Fantasy squad. =p
